You probably already know the music of Deane Nesbitt, Jr. – having heard it on radio, over satellite broadcasts, at a wedding or performed by others at concerts. A veteran pianist and composer, Deane has been recording for over thirty years, from small collections of music to full albums. He is presently working on a new recording. Deane has entertained by design in Europe, where he met and played for Greta Garbo, and he has entertained in various parts of the world in an impromptu way in hotels, restaurants, pubs and even onboard ship. Deane’s music ranges from being quiet and haunting to grand and inspiring. Because of its relaxing and beneficial qualities, his music is the only music ever to be endorsed by the Hans Selye Foundation – Hans Selye was the doctor who first identified the now-familiar concept of stress – and the Canadian Institute of Stress. Calgary’s AM1060 CKMX, the official radio station for Alberta’s Centennial, also endorsed his music, referring to Deane’s ability as a “giant of a talent.” Deane has always played the piano entirely by ear, making more than average use of the sharps and flats. By making an analogy between these raised keys and Braille, he found he could teach piano to those who were visually impaired. His first full album, On the Black Keys and by Ear, was produced to raise money for the blind. His album, Ocean Rain, contained five of his own compositions, and his two most recent albums, Castaway and Everywhere From Here, consist entirely of his own music. These latest two albums, arranged by David Nelson and Brian Gagnon, respectively, have been reissued several times. His evocative composition, Canadian Summer, was performed by the Canada Pops Orchestra at the 125th Anniversary of the annual Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto. A family man, Deane has a degree in law from McGill University and a certificate from the Harvard Business School. He wrote an award-winning corporate history and has served on fourteen boards, eleven of them being charitable organizations. He is a member of the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN) and is listed in the Canadian Who’s Who. His other interests relate to the outdoors and have included cycling, flying, hiking, landscape painting (he has had several commissions), kayaking and photography. |
